Ford Explains Why He’s Not Testifying

The premier says he won’t be testifying at an inquiry into the Freedom Convoys occupation of downtown Ottawa and the use of the Emergencies Act.

Doug Ford says it’s a commission looking into the police actions and is not political.

“For Ontario this was a policing matter, it was not a political matter and the opposition knows politicians don’t direct the police,” Ford told the Ontario Legislature during Question Period today.

Ford adds that it’s not something that’s in their jurisdiction.

“This is a federal inquiry, into the federal government’s decision to use the federal Emergencies Act.”

Government house leader Paul Calandra says they are providing cabinet documents and are making the deputy ministers for the Solicitor General and Transportation available.
