New Mayor Elected in Atikokan

Atikokan has a new mayor.

Rob Ferguson earned more than 71 per cent of the voter to defeat Robbin Harper for the position vacated by the retiring Dennis Brown.

Brown held the position for 30 years.

Two of the three incumbents were returned to council.

Jim Johnson and Liz Shine were successful in retaining their seats, while Brian Stimson finished seventh in voting.

Gord Martin was the top vote-getter and will join Johnson and Shine around the council table in November, along with other newcomers Gord Knowles, Janelle Zacharis and Kristi-Lynn McQuay.
