Local Sports for Friday, October 24

The Fort Frances Muskies football team concluded their season with a 10-8 upset win over the Beaver Brae Broncos Friday.

The win left the team with a 3 and 4 record and a tie for fourth in the Winnipeg High School Football League’s Bramwell Division, but a tiebreaker left the Muskies out of the playoffs.

All of the Muskies’ points came in the second quarter, with running back Jaxon Strachan scoring a touchdown on a 65-yard run and Hayden Becketts kicking the extra point and a 27-yard field goal.

The Muskies’ defence took over the rest of the game, with Strachan snuffing out a Bronco drive in the final minute with a late-game interception to seal the win.

The Fort Frances Muskies dropped both games at the SIJHL showcase in Superior, Wisconsin.

The Lakers lost 4-1 on Friday to Sioux Lookout and then 7-2 on Saturday to Kam River.

Clark Scaddan scored his third of the season in Friday’s contest.

Ethan Elgie and Jack Wood scored in Saturday’s game.

The International Falls Broncos girls’ volleyball team has been ranked second in their Section 7AA playoffs.

The Broncos went 16-6 this season, 4-1 against teams in their subsection.

The Broncos will open the playoffs on Wednesday with a game against Two Harbors.

Nolan Ross picked up his second point of the season for the French team Moriaz-Avoriaz in their 2-1 shootout loss on Saturday to Strasbourg.
