93.1 The Border is asked candidates running for election a few questions about the reasons behind their decision to run.
Lewis Kempf is a candidate seeking to become a councillor with the township of Dawson.
Here are the answers to the questions we asked.
Why are you running for office?
Local politics have always been an interest of mine. I have, for most of my adult life, felt that we as citizens should give back to the community, and I am in a good position to do that now.
What are the main issues do you see your community facing over the next four years?
It seems that the cost of everything has gone up sharply over the past few years. So, I believe a large item will be, “How do we deal with rising costs?” Do we cut services? Do we raise taxes? I’m sure this will be one of the largest issues to deal with.
How would you tackle those issues?
One possible option could be to open a partnership with neighboring communities to share resources and thus lowering costs.
What qualities or qualifications can you bring to the position?
I believe one of my largest qualities is my ability to approach issues with an open mind. I believe, as I have stated before, I enter this race with no agenda, which gives me an opportunity to look at all sides of every issue that comes forward.
