Actor Robbie Coltrane, Harry Potter’s Hagrid, has passed away

Sad news for Harry Potter fans, the actor who played the beloved giant Hagrid has passed away.

Scottish actor Robbie Coltrane has died at the age of 72.

Coltrane first found fame in the 90s with the series “Cracker.” He went on to play Rubeus Hagrid, mentor to the boy wizard Harry Potter in all eight films from 2001 to 2011.

Author J.K. Rowling has issued a statement on Twitter saying it was an honour to know him.

I’ll never know anyone remotely like Robbie again. He was an incredible talent, a complete one off, and I was beyond fortunate to know him, work with him and laugh my head off with him. I send my love and deepest condolences to his family, above all his children. pic.twitter.com/tzpln8hD9z

“He was an incredible talent, a complete one-off, and I was beyond fortunate to know him, work with him and laugh my head off with him,” Rowling says.

His agent says he passed away at a hospital in Scotland on Friday.

There is no word on the cause.
