Local Sports for Tuesday, October 11

Fort Frances Muskies football team rolled to another big offensive win, beating St. John’s in Winnipeg on Friday 66-6.

The Muskies struck early, with a 15-yard touchdown run by Kel Cameron on just the third play for the game.

Hayden Beckett increased the Muskies’ lead by scoring a touchdown on a punt return and another on an interception.

Running back Blake Kreger had three touchdowns in the game. Cameron scored twice.

Fullback Jaxon Strachan and receivers Kaleb Richards and Fletcher Klug also scored TDs.

The Muskies improve to 2-3 and next travel back to Winnipeg on Friday for a game against Kildonan East.

 

International Falls Broncos football team defeated Greenway-Nashwauk-Keewatin on Friday 19-12.

 

Fort Frances Lakers dropped a pair of games to the Dryden GM Ice Dogs, losing 9-2 on Friday and 7-2 on Saturday.

Brandon Rosetti and Ian Snooks scored in Friday’s contest.

Darnell Kempf and Branden Hill scored Saturday.

The Lakers don’t see action until October 21st when they travel to Sioux Lookout for a game against the expansion Bombers.

 

A pair of wins for the Rainy Lake Voyageurs women’s volleyball team.

On Saturday, they swept Fond du Lac in three games by scores of 25-9, 25-14 and 25-16.

Kiarra Edley led the way with five ace serves and nine digs.

Cara Polk responded with eight kills, one ace serve, five digs and 14 set assists.

Kaitlyn Stavish had six kills and five digs.

Cyra Polk chipped in three kills and 15 digs.

KayLynn Cronin served up four aces, six digs, four kills and one ace block.

Maddie Lowe had two solo blocks, two kills and three ace serves.

Last night, the Voyageurs defeated Oak Hills by scores of 25-9, 25-12 and 25-15.

Edley had the hot service hand, with seven ace serves.

Stavish had 13 kills and five ace serves.

Zoe Adkins recorded nine digs.
