WHO: End of the COVID-19 pandemic ‘is in sight’

The head of the World Health Organization says we’ve never been in a better position to end the pandemic.

The WHO has announced the number of reported deaths last week was the lowest since March 2020.

Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus says we’re approaching the finish line in his most optimistic speech yet about the pandemic.

“We’re not there yet, but the end is in sight,” he says. “A marathon runner does not stop when the finish line comes into view. She runs harder, with all of the energy she has left. So must we.”

The virus has killed roughly 6.5 million people worldwide.
