New Forest Fire in Rainy River District

One new forest fire was reported in the Rainy River District over the weekend.

It occurred late Friday afternoon near Hook Lake, about 65 kilometres north of Fort Frances.

The fire was small in size and has since been declared out.

It is just the seventh fire in the district this year and the first since the middle of July.

The fire hazard in the Northwest Region remains mostly low, especially in the far north areas of the Red Lake and Sioux Lookout sectors, as well as throughout most of the Fort Frances and Thunder Bay sectors along the International border.

Central portions of the region, such as the Kenora, Dryden and Nipigon sectors, feature mainly moderate with areas of high hazard conditions.
