New U.S. Border Facility Timetable Outlined

Some specific details regarding the construction of new border facilities in International Falls.

A project fact sheet from the U.S. General Services Administration reveals construction is budgeted for nearly $250 million.

Approval for the project was granted in April.

The GSA is currently in the process of awarding a design tender.

Construction is expected to begin in March 2026 and be completed by the summer of 2029.

The new facility is to be on property located east of the existing building, along the shore of the upper Rainy River.

Roads leading to and from Canada will be reconfigured.

Acquisition of land is scheduled to begin in 2025. The government has budgeted over $31 million dollars for that purpose.

Joining members of the U.S Customs and Border Protection, the new facility will provide office space for staff with the Department of Agriculture Plant Protection and Quarantine (USDA), and Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
