Advisory Committee Being Created

The town of Fort Frances is preparing to update its official plan and zoning by-law.

To assist consultants with their work, the town is looking to form a technical advisory committee.

Chief Administrative Officer Faisal Anwar says the committee will make recommendations and assist with efforts to gather public input.

“Consultations will be done with community members, Indigenous communities and all stakeholders so that we can get input from all walks of life into the Official Plan and Zoning by-law,” says Anwar.

The proposed committee would include members of administration, the Committee of Adjustment, the Economic Development Executive Committee, and the Municipal Accommodation Tax Committee.

There would also be additional seats at the table for local developers, other interest groups and the public.

Town council still needs to sign off on the proposal before the town begins appointing members.

The town has hired WSP Canada to redo the planning documents.

It is proposing an in-depth consultation strategy to get as much input as it can.
