Unemployment Rate Hits All-time Low in Minnesota

Another all-time unemployment low in Minnesota.

The state’s Department of Employment and Economic Development says June’s rate was 1.8 per cent.

That is the lowest rate since the state started tracking unemployment numbers in 1976.

The lowest pre-pandemic rate was 2.5 per cent in early 1999.

The state only saw a net gain of one hundred jobs, but unemployment dropped because many were finding jobs with a worker shortage being experienced in many fields.

“The big challenge is a historically tight labour market – we’re still down just over 72,000 people in our labour force since before the pandemic,” notes DEED Commissioner Steve Grove. “We’re continuing to grow DEED’s Summer of Jobs campaign to highlight job market opportunities, and to help employers find workers in labour pools they may have previously overlooked.”

Nationally, the unemployment rate stayed the same at 3.6% for a fourth straight month.

Unemployment numbers for Koochiching County are to be released later this month.
