Drag Queens/Kings Take Stage Tonight

A drag show comes to the stage at the Fort Frances Canadian Bass Championship tonight.

Eight drag queens and kings will perform as part of the Allure Drag Spectacular.

Mz. Molly Poppinz, the show’s M.C., says it should not be seen as unusual to mix fishing with drag.

“I think that it’s important to highlight that drag fans come in all shapes and sizes from all sorts of backgrounds. Some of our own performers, myself included, are people from the middle of nowhere who love to fish, love to camp, love to hunt. All the same things that so many people of Fort Frances are into. We’re just like all of you. We just sprinkle glitter on our lures and our fishing line. That’s all. We’re really, really excited to come and meet everybody and to make some new lasting friendships and some new, lasting fandoms,” says Mz. Poppinz.

Other performers with Mz. Poppins include Shaela Vie, who has lived in Fort Frances, Miss Take, Amber Ale, Lady Fantasia, Queen Deville, and Ivan Love, a drag king.

“Coming to a new city, to a new set of people, to a brand new audience, we know that none of them have got a chance to see anything that we’ve got. So everything that we are bringing, we get to introduce it fresh. It’s like starting at a new school, and we get to have this brand new relationship from scratch with the people of Fort Frances, and the energy among the performers is absolutely effervescent. We are all bubbling to the top with excitement,” says Mz. Poppinz.

The show will begin at 8 p.m. under the tent at the Sorting Gap Marina.

Tickets will be sold at the door, but cash only.
