Highways 71/17 Closed

A section of the Trans Canada Highway between Vermilion Bay and Kenora has been shut down.

The Ministry of Transportation says it is due to a washout that has caused a substantial hole in the highway near Richard Lake, about 50 kilometres east of Kenora.

The MTO isn’t saying when the road may reopen.

Highway 71 near Sioux Narrows has also been closed. It is because of water over the road.

There are three areas of concern.

The main blockage is near Berry Creek, fifteen kilometres north of Sioux Narrows.

There is also just a single lane of traffic further north of that near Maybrun Road and at Old Woman Road.

The Ministry says water on that stretch of the highway covers three kilometres.
