Point Park Canteen Possible

There could be a canteen coming back to Point Park this summer.

Local resident, Tasha Wagner, has expressed interest in using a former park office to serve drinks, snacks and limited fast food.

Operations and Facilities manager Travis Rob says some improvements to the building would be needed first.

“It has no windows and only one door. If we were to open it for use as something, we would have to replace the windows so that it aesthetically looked a little more inviting,” says Rob.

Members of the Operations and Facilities Committee are recommending the town look further into the improvements and work toward a leasing agreement.

“It offers a service up at the point that hasn’t been there a long time, which would be wonderful. It also offers us an opportunity maybe to regulate the camping a little bit and collect the fees in a little bit easier manner,” says Councillor John McTaggart.

There is now a dropbox for campers to drop their fees.

“I think it’s important that our Point Park campground area gets spruced up and looks good for visitors and users. This is the way to do that with the office building,” says Councillor Mike Behan.

Town council is expected to vote on the matter on Monday.
