New Tour Boat for Namakan Basin Explorations

Voyageurs National Park has a new tour boat.

The Ne-zho-dain will be based at the Kabetogama Lake Visitor Center.

It’s named after Chief Ne-zho-dan, who lived in Kabetogama while leading the Bois Forte Band of Ojibway.

He was also reported to be the last known Ojibwe survivor of the famous Battle with the Cut Foot Sioux.

The park obtained federal funding for the boat.

The 32-passenger vessel will be used for excursions to Kettle Falls, Ellsworth Rock Garden and around Kabetogama and the Namakan Narrows.

The park says it will restore consistent tour boat and charter services on Kabetogama Lake.

It will also be available for school groups, charter events, special tours and shuttles and ranger-led tours.

The vessel was built by ACI Boats in Washington State, with delivery to occur in the spring.

Tours will begin in mid-June.
