Trucker Protest In Ottawa Continues

The trucker protest in Ottawa is expected to continue to a third straight day in front of the Houses of Commons.

The Freedom Convoy is opposed to mandates imposed because of the pandemic.

Ottawa Police say demonstrators have indicated their intention to stay, causing further traffic, noise and safety issues.

Police have so far avoided giving out tickets or towing vehicles to prevent confrontation.

Ottawa Police add it is costing an estimated $800 thousand to have officers positioned at the gathering.

Meantime, they have launched several investigations related to the protest.

People were photographed dancing atop the National War Memorial while signs and an upside-down Canadian flag were placed on the statue of Terry Fox on Saturday.

Police are also looking into reports of threats, intimidation and illegal behaviours toward police and city workers.
