Union Files Complaint Against Colleges

The Ontario Public Service Employees Union is accusing the College Employer Council of unfair labour practices.

It claims the Council and its member colleges are interfering with workers’ rights to support their union in contract talks.

OPSEU points to a letter faculty have received that casts doubt on the legality of a work-to-rule campaign started in mid-December.

More than 15,000 faculty represented by the union, including those at Confederation College, have been working without a new contract since the start of this school year.

A work-to-rule campaign was initiated to back demands.

OPSEU says several colleges have also told their faculty to stop sharing bargaining information while at work.

The union notes colleges are using college resources to share their side of the dispute with faculty, staff and students.

OPSEU has filed a complaint with the Ontario Labour Relations Board.
