Health Unit Provides Guidance For Hockey Tournaments

The Northwestern Health Unit has put out a list of recommendations for anyone planning to go out of town to attend a hockey tournament.

Medical Officer of Health Dr. Kit Young Hoon says such events are prime opportunities to spread the COVID-19 virus.

“A tournament often gathers many people from different communities, schools, and workplaces and has the potential for spreading COVID-19 across our region very quickly,” says Dr. Young Hoon.

“So we ask the public to be mindful of risk when they are participating.”

Dr. Young Hoon says parents and children need to be mindful of gathering limits between games.

“Since many of our cases acquired COVID-19 through socializing with other adults, it is important that anyone attending tournaments follow public health guidance and regulations including gathering limits.”

She adds the Health Unit has developed a resource on how to stay COVID safe. It can be accessed on their website.
