District-Wide Food Drive Returns

Stuff A Cruiser is set for a return.

The annual food drive for food banks in Fort Frances, Emo, and Rainy River will take place on December 4.

The goal is to fill police cruisers, ambulances even a school bus full of non-perishable food.

Auxiliary-Captain with the Salvation Army in Fort Frances Arthur Heathcote says it’s a significant event for the food banks.

“Right after Christmas, there is a significant influx of people needing food. So Stuff A Cruiser has always made sure that our shelves are well-stocked, not only for Christmas but after Christmas as well,” says Heathcote.

Heathcote says it’s also key for their Christmas hamper program.

“A lot of the Christmas hamper food comes in during that time, and any surplus just helps both of our food banks at UNFC (United Native Friendship Centre) and the Salvation Army.”

Heathcote says collection sites remain as they were last year.

“We’ve got all of our regular locations are participating with it. We’ve got Walmart Canada, Safeway, The Place, Cloverleaf Grocery, as well as Beaver Mills Market in Rainy River.”

Heathcote says if you’d like to help out, contact the Salvation Army’s Fort Frances office.

A similar drive also takes place separately in Atikokan. No details for that event have yet been revealed
