Vaccination Policy Clears Council Committee

The town of Fort Frances is a step away from putting in place a new vaccine policy governing all town employees.

The town’s Administration and Finance Committee has given its blessing and will forward it to the next council meeting for final approval.

By-law enforcement officer, Patrick Bruyere says it passed through both union groups and received a legal opinion first.

“Both unions support kind of what we’ve got presented today, going through the process of testing and information session,” says Bruyere.

The proposed policy calls for workers to show proof of vaccination by December 1.

Those not fully vaccinated will need to undergo regular COVID testing.

Bruyere says they will also need to go through an educational program.

“It’s a 32-page presentation just on benefits of being vaccinated, how the vaccines work, kind of vaccine safety related to the development of the policy and vaccines, risk of not being vaccinated and the possible side effects of vaccinations.”

Bruyere notes about fifteen town employees are currently not fully vaccinated.

Currently, the general public must show proof of vaccination before entering the Memorial Sports Centre, Townshend Theatre and the Sister Kennedy Centre.
