Province To Legislate Washroom Openings For Truckers

Businesses may have to make their washrooms open to truckers and couriers who deliver to them.

Labour Minister Monte McNaughton is proposing legislation to make those washrooms accessible.

“It’s a disgrace that these drivers have to plan their day around when they can find an open door. Giving people access to a basic facility like a clean washroom is common decency,” says McNaughton.

McNaughton says many facilities have been off-limits to truckers and the general public because of the pandemic.

“These workers have been there for all of us during the pandemic. We ought to be there for them. It’s time we give these drivers a break.

The proposed measure will not apply to washrooms in private residences.
