Update: PPC And Green’s React To Election Results

The People’s Party of Canada has yet to gain a seat in the federal election and projections have leader Maxime Bernier losing his bid to get elected in the Quebec riding of Beauce.

Bernier previously represented the riding south of Quebec City from 2006 to 2019.

Despite the result he says, “Tonight we’ve made history. We will never be the same again. When we started this campaign five weeks ago everyone thought we would only be a foot note. At the beginning the media did not even cover us and then they had to start paying attention. Yes, they have to start paying attention because thousands of Canadians were coming to our rallies all across the country. Everywhere we looked you could see purple, a purple wave, a sea of purple. My friends this is not just a political party, it is a movement, it is a revolution that we are starting now.”

Bernier went on to say enough is enough of COVID restrictions and spending and stressed Canadians just want to have their normal lives back, stressing it’s time for an end to the tyranny and a return to freedom.

He stressed the People’s Party has become the only real opposition party in the country.

Bernier adds if we were under a proportional voting system, his party would have had at least 20 MP’s elected today.

It has also been a bad night for the Green party as they are down 4 percentage points in the federal election.

Leader Annamie Paul made a very early appearance at her campaign reception in Toronto.

Paul refused to take reporter questions about the early election results which sees the Greens leading in only one riding and the People’s Party of Canada picking up more support.

She told supporters and volunteers, “Enjoy your hard work and all you’ve done to get to this point. It’s going to be a long night. I’m personally very concerned to hear that there’s still polling stations that are open and that they will be open for hours because of what has happened. We know that our riding had the least polling stations, so it could be awhile.”

The latest results have the Liberals leading or elected in 154 ridings, Conservatives 121, Bloc Quebecois 30, NDP 30 and Green’s two.

Most major media outlets have declared a Liberal government but it’s not clear if it will be minority or majority.
