Powlowski campaign dominated by door knocking.

It has been a lot door knocking for the Liberal incumbent in the Thunder Bay-Rainy River riding, Marcus Powlowski.

He says it’s allowed him to maintain touch with the constituents he’s represented the last two years.

The issues, he says, coming from those visits vary from personal hardships to the election mainstays.

“One woman told me her son died a couple of months ago from an opioid overdose. Other people asking me about jobs. Other people about climate change,” says Powlowski.

Powlowski has reverted to door-to-door visits because of the pandemic.

He notes in the 2019 election, there were several community events where he would go to be to meet as many people as possible.

The pandemic has all but eliminated that prospect this time.

“You don’t have much opportunity to actually get out and speak to people, speak to crowds. I’ve done none of that. Even meet and greets. We’ve had a few of them.”

When he has met with voters, he is often having to defend his record in the riding.

Powlowski notes a lot came across his desk over the past two years that he and his office played a role to resolve.

He also feels he’s represented the west end of his riding well.

“I just kind of went over it yesterday, and I think I spend as much time dealing with issues from Atikokan west as I’ve done issues in Thunder Bay.”
