Catholic Board Welcoming New students

Director of Education for the Northwest Catholic District School Board Brendan Hyatt says their staff are eagerly awaiting to see the kids again.

Like others in the province, they too had to learn from home beginning in mid-April to finish off the last school year.

As students head back to class, Hyatt says they will remain in cohorts.

“There will be some loosening. For example, outside at recess, they can go without masks. Of course, health and safety will be paramount there, but they’ll be able to actually interact with their peers in a more fulsome manner outside,” says Hyatt.

Extra-curricular activities and instrumental music will also return.

Hyatt says during the break, they focused on ensuring a smooth transition for everyone.

“We’ve got our mental health teams getting things together to support not only our staff but our students as well with some of their mental health and well-being needs. We recognized this may be quite a change for students who have been away for so long to get back into a classroom after they’ve been at home at their table and learning.”
