Summit Held On Need For Vaccination Certificate Program

A united call for a vaccination certificate program to show proof of vaccination against COVID-19.

The province’s opposition joined with health care, education, business, and municipal reps on Monday for what was called a vaccine summit.

The meeting was held virtually.

Liberal leader Steven Del Duca says the Premier was invited but didn’t show.

“I suspect we all will continue to urge Premier Doug Ford and his government in the hopes of working together as one team here in this province, to get the right thing done in vaccine certificates, to get the right things done across the critically important sectors on vaccine mandates,” says Del Duca.

It was the first time the opposition parties have come together with sector leaders to discuss the pandemic.

Green Party leader Mike Schreiner says working together will help get the pandemic behind us.

“I believe this is really a critical moment that we have to set partisanship aside. We have to bring everyone in Ontario together. That includes all the political parties and all the stakeholders and just people across the province,” says Schreiner.

While the Premier did not show or send a representative, Del Duca says he did reach out to Ford on Friday.

“Good chat with the Premier. No participation today in the call that we had (Monday), but we’ve all heard the media reports that cabinet will be contemplating what to do (Tuesday).

Del Duca says he’s happy to share the ideas discussed at the summit.
