The Ministry of Northern Development, Mines, Natural Resources and Forestry is reporting no new forest fires in the northwest.
There are currently 79 active ones. Six are considered not under control. Two are listed as being held. Thirteen are under control, with 58 under observation.
There are four fires still burning within Quetico Provincial Park, including one covering over 45 thousand hectares. It’s been burning since June 9.
The Ministry brought crews and helicopters to the blaze last week.
The area did receive close to 30 mm of rain over the weekend.
The majority of the active fires in the northwest are in Red Lake or Sioux Lookout fire districts.
According to the latest data from the province, the fire hazard across the entire northwest region is low.
Despite the low hazard, the restricted fire zone remains in place for the Fort Frances District and southern parts of the Kenora and Dryden districts.
