Cases Spike Over 700

Ontario’s daily COVID-19 case count is over 700 for the first time in months.

Health Minister Christine Elliott is announcing 722 cases, nearly 80 per cent of whom are not vaccinated or whose vaccine status is unknown. 158 are fully vaccinated.

This is the most new cases in a single day since June 5th, when the province reported 744 new positive tests.

This brings the province’s seven-day average for new cases up to 564.

Across Ontario, 178 people are hospitalized with the disease, and another 141 people are in ICU due to COVID-19. Elliott says those numbers may not be up-to-date because not all hospitals report on weekends.

On the vaccine front, 20,466,975 doses have been administered. Nearly 82.2 per cent of Ontarians 12 years of age and older have one dose, and 74.8 per cent have two doses.
