NWO Reaches 102 Active Fires

The fire hazard has calmed down for parts of the far north, but remains extreme for the more southern areas of the region.

Right now there are 102 active fires in the Northwest.

That includes Red Lake Fire 77, still around 36 kilometres from Red Lake. That community is not expecting rain anytime soon and its latest update to social media says an evacuation remains likely.

Kenora Fire 51 continues to grow, currently measured at 90,000 hectares and not under control.

The Municipality of Red Lake says it’s not of immediate concern, but the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry is keeping a close eye on it.

Red Lake Fire 65 is over 12,000 hectares and is now just seven kilometres from Poplar Hill First Nation.
