29 New Fires Reported Wednesday

The battle to contain forest fires in the Northwest Region continues.

The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry reports 97 active fires with 39 deemed not under control.

Twenty-nine new fires were reported on Wednesday, with reports of others still being investigated.

Three of the new starts were in the Rainy River District.

A small fire near Bat Lake, north of Fort Frances, is under control.

Two others, east of Lower Manitou Lake, continue to burn.

The province issued an Emergency Area Order for all of northwestern Ontario on Wednesday, which allows the MNRF to take special measures to ensure the safety of people and the protection of critical property.

The outdoor fire ban also remains in effect.
