Area Forest Fire Downgraded To ‘Being Held’

Some success for Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry firefighters working on that forest fire still burning near Naicatchewenin.

The fire is now listed as being held.

It has been burning since June 23, scorching 407 hectares and briefly forcing the evacuation of some residents early on.

The Ministry says ongoing suppression efforts have helped downgrade its status.

The fire is one of 71 active across the northwest region.

Three new fires were reported yesterday, along with several others reported late Wednesday night.

Many of them, though, are small in size.
