Ontario’s Restrictions To Remain A Little Longer

Alberta and Saskatchewan are preparing to lift nearly all of their COVID-19 public health restrictions.

Alberta will do so on July 1, while Saskatchewan will do the same ten days later.

Ontario is not yet ready to follow.

Outgoing Medical Officer of Health Dr. David Williams feels it’s a heavier decision in this province.

“Especially in Ontario where the amount of travel in and out far supersedes any of those seen in places like Alberta and Saskatchewan,” says Dr. Williams.

Dr. Williams adds there are a number of factors to consider.

“We’re going to be looking at a number of factors in there and hope to be advising the public in due time well ahead what will be reasonable and feasible. And of course, we watch the numbers and the vaccination performance,” says Dr. Williams.

Dr. Williams notes the western provinces’ reopening plans are similar to Ontario’s Step Three of its Roadmap To Reopen plan.

Ontario is currently in Step One.
