Four More Starts In Rainy River District

After a short lull, the forest fire situation in northwestern Ontario is starting to heat up again.

The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry reports ten new starts, including four in the Rainy River District.

A 2.5 hectare blaze at Kishkutena Lake, approximately 50 kilometres north of Fort Frances, and a smaller fire just north of New Gold’s Rainy River mine site are both listed as being held.

A nine-hectare fire near Pipestone Lake, about 60 kilometres north of Fort Frances and a five-hectare blaze at Marl Lake, 60 kilometres northwest of Fort Frances, are both listed as not under control.

There are now more than 30 active fires across the northwest, with 13 scattered across the Rainy River District.
