The Ontario NDP wants a judicial inquiry into the province’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Leader Andrea Horwath says Ontario residents deserve to find out why so many people died.
“That’s why we are calling for a judicial inquiry,” says Horwath. “Because it’s what will give people, I believe, the answers we need but also the confidence in the results.”
She outlines some of what they want examined.
“The number of things that we want the judicial inquire to look at include what was the impact of (Progressive) Conservative cuts before the pandemic and what were the results of the disastrous colour-coded reopening system.”
Horwath adds the province needs to be better prepared going forward.
“There is just no way we should be leaving Ontario in a situation where we haven’t learned the lessons of the decisions that this government made during the pandemic.”
Horwath says other jurisdictions, like the United Kingdom, have launched public inquiries into their handling of COVID-19.
