Koochiching County Past The 50 Per Cent Vaccination Rate

Young people in the 12 to 15 age bracket are being immunized against COVID-19 in International Falls.

Koochiching County’s Health and Human Services Manager Kathy LaFrance says the Pfizer vaccine is being administered.

“We don’t have the Pfizer vaccine here at the County, but they are giving that out at Essentia (Health-International Falls Clinic), so we are referring anybody who wants to get children 12 and up vaccinated to call Essentia,” says LaFrance.

LaFrance says a new shipment of vaccines is expected this week, allowing the County to hold clinics for those now able to get their second dose. A clinic will take place this Friday, with another planned for early June.

The County has also received approval from the Minnesota Department of Health to hang on to vaccines longer.

“They have removed the requirement that we get that out within seven days.

LaFrance says that was important because they were having difficulty filling clinics.

Almost fifty-two per cent of residents 16 and old have now received at least one dose of a COVID vaccine.

LaFrance says the number might be a little off.

“Any veterans getting their vaccines through the VA (Veteran Administration Department) are not entered into that system, so our percentage may be a bit higher in the county as far as who’s been vaccinated,” notes LaFrance.

There were no new cases of COVID-19 reported in the County yesterday.

State numbers reached just below the 600-mark.
