A new survey shows the COVID-19 pandemic has been particularly hard on teachers.
About two thousand school board employees have taken part in the University of Toronto and Mount Sinai study.
Dr. Brenda Coleman says teachers are slowly starting to be immunized, but there is some bad news as well.
“As of two weeks ago, about 29 per cent of them had been vaccinated at least once,” states Dr. Coleman. “One of the sad things that we learned is about 40 per cent of them have moderate to severe levels of distress.”
Dr. Coleman says online learning is only part of the problem.
“They are tired. They are nervous. Everything feels like it’s an effort, and this is about double what we would expect. We’re blaming all that on the chaos created by the pandemic.”
She adds they are looking for at least 5,000 more Ontario teachers and educators for their survey.
