The federal government says funding for high-speed internet projects is paying off.
Maryam Monsef is the minister responsible for Rural Economic Development and says more households are connected with broadband service than ever.
“To date, we have invested to support 87 thousand households in Ontario to get them closer to a high-speed connection or to complete that connection.”
She explains that they’re continuously looking to connect more Canadians.
“There is a new program now, and every day we are greenlighting more projects that will connect households to this essential service at the end of this year and over the coming years.”
Last November, the federal government promised $1.75 billion to support broadband service across the country.
Monsef says the goal is to connect 98 per-cent of Canadians to high-speed Internet by 2026 and achieve the national target of 100 per-cent connectivity by 2030.
