Health Unit To Report COVID Cases By Health Hub Only

A change in reporting COVID-19 cases for the Northwestern Health Unit.

The Health Unit will now report new cases based on their Health Hub area.

“ We are now able to do this because our daily case numbers are large enough that case information released by the Ministry can not be linked to the cases we announce,” explains Medical Officer of Dr. Kit Young Hoon.

Previously, cases within the Rainy River District were combined for the entire area.

At the start of the pandemic, the Health Unit reported cases based on the smaller Health Hub regions. It changed its reporting to wide areas, saying it would be too easy to identify people based on the information released by the Health Unit and the provincial database that provides more detail about each case. The provincial data does not identify the exact location of cases.

With the change in reporting, there are four active cases in the Fort Frances area and one in the Atikokan region.
