Health Unit Reports Three New Cases

The Northwestern Health Unit is reporting three new cases of COVID-19 within their catchment area.

They say that there is one from each of the Kenora, Dryden/Red Lake and Sioux Lookout regions.

Dr Kit Young Hoon is the medical officer of health for the Northwestern Health Unit and all of the new cases seem to be as a result of travel.

“A lot of what’s happening is that there is exposure to a high-risk area, so there has been some type of travel or someone who has travelled from a high-risk area and this has led to a little spread locally and then because of households interacting, there’s been a cluster of individuals,” explains Dr Young Hoon.

“The cases are often clustered together in one social group or one household or a couple of households that tend to socialize together. So it’s relatively under control at this point.”

Despite the new cases, and the fact that there have now been 500 confirmed cases since the pandemic began, there is good news.

According to the NWHU website, the number of active cases has gone down from 48 to 44, while the number of recovered cases has gone up from 450 to 456.
