Legions Receive Pandemic Relief Funding

Legions in Fort Frances and Atikokan are benefiting from some pandemic relief funding from the federal government.

The Fort Frances Branch is getting $10,709. The Atikokan Branch will receive $11,406.

The funding is part of the first round of funding from the Veterans Organizations Emergency Support Fund, set up to replace some of the money Legion’s lost due to closures.

“Covid-19 has had made it difficult for non-profits and especially legions to continue many of their traditional fund-raising activities, ” says Thunder Bay-Rainy River MP Marcus Powlowski. “The local programming provided by the legions contribute so much to our communities, and I am happy to see their importance is being recognized with these supports from our Government.”

The funding amounts were determined by the Royal Canadian Legion’s Dominion Command.
