NDP Wants Extension For Long Term Care Commission

The NDP has lost on a bit to extend the deadline of the Commission on Long Term Care.

NDP deputy leader Sara Singh says the commission still can’t get information and the government documents it needs to complete it’s work.

“The Commission still can’t get access to important information and government documents, and the government has refused to offer the extension they need to finish their work. Why is the government preventing the Commission on Long Term Care from doing its work?” asked Singh at Queen’s Park on Monday.

Progressive Conservative house leader Paul Calandra says the Commission is doing good work.

“Quite proud of the work the Commission has done to this point,” says Calandra. “As you know, the opposition, of course, was very critical of the Long Term Care Commission, saying it didn’t have the independence required. It has shown just the opposite,” says Calandra.

A couple of government ministers, deputy ministers and the Chief Medical Officer of Health for Ontario are scheduled to appear before the Commission this week.

The final report is due by April 30.
