Missouri Angler Faces Hefty Fines

A northwestern Ontario fishing trip has netted an American man a hefty man.

The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry says Eric Balkenbush of Missouri has been fined $6,500 after being found guilty of possessing an over-limit of fish, packaging fish improperly and for allowing fish to spoil

Balkenbush was charged in June 2018 after going through a MNRF check station set up near Fort Frances.

Conservation officers found four bags of unidentifiable fish filets and no ice to preserve them. It was later determined Balkenbush was sixteen walleye and nine bass over the legal limit.

Along with the fine, the angler was banned from fishing in the province or possessing an Ontario fishing licence for four years.
