Extreme Cold Warning In Effect

Freezing temperatures are setting in across the region, with much the Northwest under an extreme cold warning.

It’s in effect from Thunder Bay west to the Manitoba border and extends to the far Northern communities as well.

Rob Kuhn is a Severe Weather Meteorologist with Environment Canada and says bitterly cold Arctic air is affecting most of the Northwest, and will only ease up to the minus 30s this afternoon.

“We’ll be dealing with these extremely cold wind chills into Monday morning, and then possibly it’ll stay bitterly cold for much of next week. The pattern certainly has changed from what we’ve seen earlier this winter,” he explains.

Environment Canada says frostbite can develop within minutes on exposed skin, especially with wind chill.

Officials add that if it’s too cold for you to stay outside, it’s too cold for your pet to stay outside.
