Government Claims $7B Cut In Red Tape

Major optimism from Ontario’s Economic Development Minister about the province’s future.

In a recent interview with Acadia news, Vic Fedeli pointed out manufacturers are re-locating to Ontario because the government cut $7-billion from the cost of doing business, meaning this province will be more than OK.

“We’re going to come roaring back. Think about this…. this morning 30,000 more people woke up to go to a job in manufacturing than before COVID,” Fedeli.

The Economic Development Minister adds he can account for every penny of the $7-billion reduced, and that’s helping to attract manufacturers, including carmakers.

“Ford, Fiat Chrysler, General Motors, in November, announced $5-billion in new investments. And just this past week, General Motors announced another billion dollars,” says Fedeli.

Fedeli says businesses told them the cost of doing business is what caused them to hesitate to invest here.

Thunder Bay-Superior North Liberal MPP Michael Gravelle tells us he has yet to see any of that optimism translate to the north.

Thunder Bay-Atikokan NDP MPP Judith Monteith-Farrell expresses similar concerns. She adds Doug Ford is sitting on billions of COVID-19 funding.
