Violent And Property Crime Take A Dip. MVAs Go Up

Crime is down in Fort Frances.

Violent crime, which includes assaults, sexual assaults and other crimes against a person, is down 7.4 per cent over 2019.

Assaults were up a bit from 119 in 2019 to 122 last year. Sexual assaults dropped from 28 to 19.

Property crime was down 27.9 per cent. This encompasses things like theft, fraud and break and enters. Most categories, including fraud, break and enters, and mischief, saw fewer numbers in 2020.

The number of thefts of items valued under $5,000 was also down from 205 in 2019 to 127 in 2020. The number of thefts over $5,000 went from 8 in 2019 to 13 last year.

OPP were involved in 26 drug cases in 2020. There were 13 in 2019.

Motor vehicle collisions were also up in 2020.

There were 249 accidents compared to 237 in 2019, a 5.1 per cent increase.

There two fatalities on local roads last year compared to zero in 2019.
