New Ladder Truck Sought

Another new fire truck is on the wish list for the Fort Frances Fire and Rescue Service.

Fire Chief Tyler Moffitt wants to replace their ladder truck, now 33 years old.

We’re one of the only ones anywhere in Canada that’s running a truck this old. Other fire chiefs across Canada can’t believe we have one this old. The cab is open at the back. That is something that a lot of the fire departments go rid of in the early 80s,” says Moffitt.

Moffitt is looking to town council for approval to seek out proposals to help pin down the costs of a new ladder truck.

He estimates it to be about $1.3 million.

That’s almost double the cost of a new pumper truck the department took possession of last year.

But Moffitt says a ladder truck is necessary.

“It’s a very important device used to life-saving rescues for buildings as well establishing a high angle active master stream for the structures, including single stories,” notes Moffitt.

He adds there are several structures in Fort Frances where the ladder truck would be vital if a major blaze broke out.

The request to seek a request for proposal will come before town council at their meeting next week.
