Province To Announce More COVID-19 Measures

Expect more action from the province as we see increasing case numbers and death rates from COVID-19.

Dr. Barbara Yaffe, associate chief medical officer of health, said urgent action is needed.

“Cabinet will be considering a number of recommendations later today,” Yaffe said Monday afternoon. “And [Tuesday] we will be able to provide you with not only our new modelling projections, but also specific details about what measures will be put in place.”

Yaffe noted that despite rumours, a curfew is not among the options on the table right now.

“In the meantime, if people would just follow the basic health measures that we have repeated many, many times, that is what will, in the end, help us reduce the infections,” Yaffe emphasized.

Yaffe said that along with rising case numbers, the province is also seeing the highest rate of deaths from the virus since the pandemic began. This latest wave is also bringing a concerning number of outbreaks of COVID-19.

“In just the last seven days, we have reported 330 new outbreaks, with over 50 percent occurring in a vulnerable sector,” Yaffe said.

She added the province shouldn’t relax until at least 60 to 70 percent of the population is vaccinated.
