Freeze Yer Gizzard Blizzard Run Going Virtual

A popular winter running event will continue.

The Freeze Yer Gizzard Blizzard 5K and 10K runs are held every January in International Falls.

Falls chamber President Tricia Heibel says because of the pandemic and the closed border, they will have to do it virtually for 2021.

“The race will technically be open for two weeks. They’ll have from January 16 through the 31st to complete whether they signed up to do the 5K, 10K, or both races,” says Heibel.

The event has seen runners come from all parts of the US in the past. Heibel says this year, those from the warmer states won’t need to ‘freeze their gizzard’ to take part.

“So, they can run in some good Texas or California weather. People can even run indoors on a treadmill. There’s no requirement to how or where you complete your miles or your distance, just that you do.”

Because of the varied running conditions participants may be running under, there will be no awards. There will be prize packs that will be raffled off.

A number of runners have already registered.

You can take part by going to the event’s web page to register. Click here for the details.
