Pandemic Dominates Council’s Agenda

The pandemic was top of mind this year for Fort Frances Mayor June Caul.

Reflecting on the year, Caul says life was so simple in the first two months of the year.

“March came in like a lamb but abruptly changed into a roaring lion as COVID-19 hit our country and the world. We formed our Municipal emergency control group that declared an emergency for the municipality as we try to blindly tried to figure out how to deal with this crisis,” says Caul.

This led to facility shutdowns, staff layoffs and changes in operating procedures.

Caul says many times they had to make some quick decisions.

“Though we endured a lot of frustration and backlash from residents on some decisions made, we did the best we could during an unprecedented time when decisions had to be made quickly and to the best of our ability,” says Caul.

Caul commends staff and partners on the Emergency Control Group for their dedication to keeping the virus at bay.

She’s also appreciative of everyone who has followed the advice of public health officials and hopes they continue the practice through the holiday season.
