Working Toward Vaccine Availability

Ontario continues to plan for the distribution of a COVID-19 vaccine.

A task force headed by retired General Rick Hillier is aiming for the province to be ready by the end of this month.

Health Minister Christine Elliott says they are now soliciting advice from experts on things like distribution, storage, transportation and administration.

“We will deliver the covid-19 vaccines when they’re ready. We will deliver them where they’re needed, and we will deliver them as quickly and as efficiently as possible,” says Elliott.

Elliott says part of the planning has been speaking to the pharmaceutical companies developing the vaccine.

Who will get the first vaccine is still to be determined.

It’s also still unknown exactly when Canada will receive its supply.

Hillier isn’t worried if Canada isn’t one of the first countries to have it.

He says it gives Ontario more time to prepare and learn from others.

“We do get an incredible opportunity to learn from their experiences in front of us, and to learn what they’re doing right, and to make sure that we’re doing that in our vaccination program and operation. And if they are doing something wrong, make sure we can improve on it,” says Hillier.
