The province’s auditor general releases a scathing review of the chief medical officer of health and his role during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The special report from Bonnie Lysyk found that Dr. David Williams didn’t lead the response, noting it was in fact the province that issued the emergency order in early October to require masking for the general public.
The report went onto say that Dr. Williams:
- Didn’t fully exercise his powers under the Health Protections and Promotions Act
- Didn’t issue directives to local medical officers of health to ensure a consistent response
- Didn’t issue directives on their behalf to Ontarians
Williams headed up the Thunder Bay District Health Unit from 2011 to 2015.
